Of Terrestrial Nature was a ceramic and floral installation by Vivian Shao Chen and Alyssa Rainville, presented by Rennes. The opening reception included beautiful refreshments that complemented the works of art, prepared by Broyt. Guests were invited to settle in and habituate with not only the garments and textiles that are emblematic of Rennes, but to welcome a harmonious visitation of ceramics and florals.
Vivian Shao Chen’s ceramic works were meant to be vessels that interpret our findings from the earth. The pieces were inspired by the dual nature of making—to disturb and take, but also to reshape and give. Alyssa Rainville finds reassurance and power in becoming acquainted with both the gentle and vigorous forces of nature. She believes floral design is a way to grow intimately closer to that range of force.

While it has taken many forms in it’s short existence of 1.5 years, Tierra has remained a constant to us — a passion project. One that has connected us with so many incredible creatives and people who share our love of design. Creating and sharing is such an important element of human existence and connection — whatever form it may take — and this has always been at the root of Tierra. As every maker has experienced, there have been learning curves, and struggles that Trudy (creative director/designer) and I had not anticipated. Printing costs, production challenges, entrepreneurial obstacles we may not have been fully prepared for. However we have carefully navigated each to the best of our ability and as we approach adulthood we will carry these experiences with us.
We hope to continue on with it’s original intentions, and maintain this as a space for dialogues surrounding art, design, beauty, travel and culture, as well as a creative outlet in which we are able to explore these further. We are constantly striving to grow and create in the most genuine and authentic way possible.
I am proud of what we have created, and look forward to many more beautiful projects ahead.
Here is to what is to come.
With love
